Determining A Sibling Blood Type.

Knowing the blood type of both of a persons parents will give you a set of blood group types. The sibling blood type can be any one from that group. It does not mean that all siblings from one set of parents will have the same blood type. Their blood may contain some of the same properties, but they may not be exactly the same.There are four blood types that come from the mother, or maternal side and four blood types that are provided by the father, or paternal side. This means that there are sixteen separate combinations that a sibling blood type could belong to. The four blood types are: O, B, A, and AB. The sibling blood type may be further classified as a positive or a negative of either of the above groups.Up until a few years ago, knowing a sibling blood type was the anticipated end result of paternity tests. The results were then compared to the blood types of both parents.

If the sibling blood type fell within the determined group of the parents, then the sibling was considered a child of those two parents. Paternity testing by blood type is still used as an important part of determining paternity, but DNA testing has given more concrete evidence of genetic codes and hereditary factors.In the medical field, knowing a sibling blood type is an absolute must when a blood transfusion or bone marrow transplant is required. Some blood groups do not mix with each other, therefore it is a very important step in determining compatibility. Mixing blood groups that are not compatible can be very harmful.Human blood is made up of plasma, platelets, red blood cells, and white blood cells.
